The new solar panels on Lichfield Leisure Centre are making a big contribution to our clean power generation. The panels at Lichfield went live on 6th January. In their first nine months they generated nearly 143 megawatts of energy. This is making a significant contribution to reducing the energy costs of the Leisure Centre. The original solar panels at Whittington Village Hall and St Giles Hospice are still performing well, with over 21 megawatts generated. That is enough to make more than one million cups of tea! The partnership with the University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has allowed us to generate over 203 megawatts of electricity in the first three quarters of the year. The collaboration with the hospitals and the Beat the Cold charity is giving long-lasting benefits to patients and residents.
July was the peak month of generation for the year, with over 63 megawatts generated. The UHNM sites contributed about 55% of Staffs Community Energy’s total generation, while Lichfield Leisure Centre generated 39% and the Whittington project the remaining 6%. As we head towards the end of the year, the amounts being generated will decrease, but overall it has been a good year so far.
