Roof-mounted Solar Panel Installation
One of Staffordshire Community Energy’s initial two sites, St Giles Hospice, had a total of 162 panels installed across several buildings in 2011. The panels provide low cost electricity to the hospice and therefore reduce their running costs and help further support residents. To finance the initial project (which also included a smaller installation on Whittington Village Hall) £54,000 worth of community shares were sold to local people enabling Staffordshire Community Energy to fund the purchase and installation of the systems. A further 25 kWp of solar was installed on the new Compassus wing of the Hospice in 2016.
The community fund generated from these projects has been used to support a variety of local community environmental projects including energy conservation measures and advice for local churches, community groups and Lichfield Garrick theatre.
