Staffordshire Community Energy’s latest solar project goes live in Lichfield

We were pleased to attend the official opening of the new Lichfield Leisure Centre last Friday, marking an important moment for Staffordshire Community Energy’s latest solar project.

The opening was led by double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington OBE, co-founder of The ReCreation Group, alongside councillors, partners and community groups. As the centre officially opened its doors, the 395 solar panels installed on the roof are now live and generating clean, locally produced electricity alongside the new leisure facilities.

Delivered by Staffordshire Community Energy in partnership with Lichfield District Council, the solar installation will help reduce the leisure centre’s carbon footprint and energy costs, while creating long-term benefit for the local community. The project demonstrates how renewable energy can be integrated into new public buildings from day one.

With the system now operational, attention turns to the next phase of the project. A community share offer will be launched later this year, giving local people the opportunity to invest directly in the solar installation and support the growth of community energy across the district.
