Whittington Village Hall

Roof-mounted Solar Panel Installation

Whittington Village Hall was one of Staffordshire Community Energy’s initial two sites. 35 panels were installed in 2011.  The panels provide low-cost electricity to the village hall, to help reduce running costs of the hall. £54,000 worth of community shares sold to local people enabling Staffordshire Community Energy to fund the purchase and installation of the systems.

The community fund generated from St Giles Hospice and Whittington Village Hall projects has been used to support a variety of local community environmental projects including energy conservation measures and advice for local churches, community groups and Lichfield Garrick Theatre.

Sarah Edwards, Labour MP for Tamworth, visited Whittington to learn about the work of SCE. She said:

“It was fantastic to see how much SCE have achieved and how much progress they have made in reducing the carbon footprint of the village.

“I have promised to support them in the projects they are investigating and to encourage my ministerial colleagues to look at them as a model for future schemes to achieve net zero carbon emissions areas across the UK.”
