Friends of Hednesford Park

Providing community skills and workshops

The Friends of Hednesford Park was established in 2011 as a community organisation supported by dedicated volunteers that enable the restoration and upkeep of Hednesford Park.

Activities supported:

Funding from Staffordshire Community Energy for the Forest of Mercia CIC to deliver courses to teach volunteers to recycle materials growing in the park and be more aware of the natural environment and its value, so that we could continue to use the skills learned for the benefit of the park and the community. Through this funding:

  • Littleton Green Community School helped to make the trellis fencing from recycled materials from the hedge cut back in the winter.
  • The craft group made the banner to support Insect week.
  • St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School came down to take part in free activities as part of Insect week
  • Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles are developing the garden at the back of the tennis courts to be a dye garden ‘ growing vegetables and fruit to use for natural dyes and paints’
  • Cronimet UK provided the material for South Staffordshire College Rodbaston motor vehicle studies students to make a whole exhibition of insects for insect week, that was displayed in the signal box garden.
  • Story boards were installed around the park to educate the community on climate change
